Another
major activity of the tours are coaching clinics for the local children.
These have been run through the local schools and have already involved
hundreds of kids.
Working
with boys and girls from the very young to 16 year olds we have sought
to not only develop
their skills but introduce them to Jesus. Often the kids have had little
or no coaching before and so it is a real pleasure to see their little
faces light up at the simplest drills and to watch the improvement in
their play even after short periods of time. Outreach at the clinics is
done in one of two ways. Either a single testimony or Gospel talk is
given at the end of the session or we use an adapted program from
Ambassadors in Sport which involves moving the children around from
station to
station
where they learn both a specific skill and a part of the gospel story.
Presenting the story in an interesting and sports related way keeps the
kids interested and translators ensure that the message is not lost
through lack of a common language. The only danger is that the kids’
natural skill level makes you look silly.
